Installation ======================================================================== For instructions on how to install PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam, please refer to the topic "Configuring Anti-Spam settings" in the Online Help for PC-cillin Internet Security. 6. Post-Installation Configuration ======================================================================== Update to the latest Anti-Spam components after installing the product. If you access the Internet through a proxy server, you need to configure proxy server settings before you can update. Note: If you are unsure whether you need to configure proxy settings or not, contact your network administrator or your Internet service provider. Your network administrator or your Internet service provider should also be able to provide you with the necessary settings. 6.1 Configuring proxy server settings ===================================================================== To configure proxy settings: 1) On your mail client's PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam toolbar, click "Trend Micro Anti-Spam > Updates". The "Updates" screen opens. 2) Click "Proxy Settings". 3) Select "Use a proxy server to download the latest components from Trend Micro ActiveUpdate." 4) In "Host name", type the host name or the IP address of your proxy server. 5) In "Port", type the port number of the proxy service. The box will retain the default value "80" if unchanged. 6) Provide the user name and password if required. Otherwise, leave them blank. Click "OK". 6.2 Updating to the latest components ===================================================================== To update the Anti-Spam engine and pattern files: 1) On your mail client's PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam toolbar, click "Trend Micro Anti-Spam > Updates". The "Updates" screen opens. 2) Click "Update Now". 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== Here are the known issues in this release: 7.1 Anti-Spam toolbar missing ===================================================================== There can be several reasons why the toolbar is missing: a) Closing Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express and then opening it again immediately can prevent the Anti-Spam toolbar from displaying. This happens when the "OUTLOOK.EXE" or the "MSIMN.EXE" process continues running. To fix this, close Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express completely and then open it again. When closing Microsoft Outlook, use "Exit and Log Off" from the "File" menu. For Outlook Express, close all open message items and click "Exit" from the "File menu". When unsure whether you have closed your mail client completely, open the mail client and repeat the procedure described above. You can also use Windows Task Manager to check for and stop the Outlook process "OUTLOOK.EXE" or the Outlook Express process "MSIMN.EXE". To stop OUTLOOK.EXE or MSIMN.EXE: 1) Right-click an empty space on the Windows taskbar, and then click "Task Manager". 2) In the "Processes" tab, check for the image name "OUTLOOK.EXE" or "MSIMN.EXE". 3) If found, select the process and click "End Process". 4) Close Task Manager. b) The Anti-Spam toolbar may also unexpectedly disappear from the Outlook Express menu when running with certain applications. Try restarting Outlook Express or reinstalling PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam. c) The Anti-Spam toolbar may disappear from the Microsoft Outlook menu if other add-ins are installed. Try uninstalling or reinstalling the other add-ins. 7.2 Cannot install or uninstall Anti-Spam ===================================================================== Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express may continue running if you have left a message window open or you have not logged off from the mail server. You will not be able to install or uninstall PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam if you have not completely stopped Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. Refer to section "7.1 Anti-Spam toolbar missing" for details on how to stop Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express completely. 7.3 Microsoft Outlook Junk E-mail support ===================================================================== Some versions of Microsoft Outlook have a built-in spam prevention feature called Junk E-mail Filter. When enabled, the Microsoft Outlook Junk E-mail feature initially processes incoming messages and quarantines spam messages based on its own settings into the Junk E-mail quarantine folder. PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam scans both the "Inbox" and the "Junk E-mail" folders to filter out spam messages and moves identified spam messages into the "Spam Mail" folder. 7.4 Filtering priority for senders lists ===================================================================== PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam assigns a higher priority to entries on the Approved Senders list than entries on the Blocked Senders list. As a result, entries found on both lists will not be blocked. Be careful when using wildcard characters on both lists. You may unintentionally block normal messages or allow messages from unwanted senders. 7.5 Multibyte characters in installation path ===================================================================== Anti-Spam cannot function properly if it is installed in a path that contains multibyte characters (Asian language characters are typically multibyte). To avoid any problems related to this issue, do not install Anti-Spam in a path containing multibyte characters. 7.6 Scanning of dragged messages ===================================================================== Microsoft Outlook, except for Microsoft Outlook 2003, cannot deliver event IDs for each message in time when more that 15 messages are dragged into the "Inbox" or "Junk E-mail" folders. This prevents PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam from checking all the messages. To ensure all messages you drag into the folders are scanned, drag fewer items at a time. 7.7 Importing contacts from multiple sets ===================================================================== If you have multiple sets of personal contacts, PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam will update the Approved Senders list only with entries from your default personal contacts list. 7.8 Adding addresses from the Global Address List ===================================================================== You cannot add addresses from the Microsoft Exchange Global Address List to the senders lists. PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam classifies email messages from addresses on the Global Address List as normal messages and prevents users from adding these addresses to both the Approved or Blocked Senders lists to avoid redundant scanning. 7.9 Scanning messages from users in the Global Address List ===================================================================== By default, PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam does not scan messages coming from addresses in the Microsoft Exchange Global Address List. In some cases, however, such as when the Global Address List cannot be accessed, Anti-Spam may scan messages from addresses on the list along with other incoming messages. 7.10 MSN(TM) Messenger is set to "busy" during installation ===================================================================== MSN Messenger can be configured to set your status to "busy" whenever a full-screen application, such as an installation program, is launched. You can turn this option off in MSN Messenger by clicking "Tools > Options > Personal" and then clearing 'Show me as "busy" and block my alerts when I'm running a full-screen program, such as a slide presentation'. 7.11 No right-click menu in Outlook Express ===================================================================== The Anti-Spam right-click menu, which allows you to quickly approve or block a sender, is only available in Microsoft Outlook. The feature is not available in Outlook Express. 7.12 "Phishing" prefix in subject lines ===================================================================== When you report a message as fraud, PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam adds the string "Phishing:" to the beginning of the subject line. You will see this modification when you open the message or preview it. However, the modification will not be shown in the "Subject" column in the list of messages. 7.13 Switching identities in Outlook Express ===================================================================== You can only switch identities manually in Outlook Express when PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam is installed. To switch identities, click "File > Identities > Manage Identities". In the "Manage Identities" screen, select "Use this identity when starting a program" and select your preferred identity. Close and restart Outlook Express. 7.14 Compacting folders in Outlook Express ===================================================================== Before compacting folders in Outlook Express, disable the PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam toolbar to ensure that the action is completed successfully. 7.15 Delays in report message sending ===================================================================== Report messages for "Spam", "Not Spam", and "Fraud" may not be sent immediately after you click the report button. You can click the "Send/Receive" button on your mail client to try sending the messages immediately. 7.16 Discrepancy between Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express ===================================================================== Because Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express save messages in different formats, PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam uses different techniques when collecting information before evaluating messages as spam. This can result in different heuristic scanning results in Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, even when Anti-Spam processes the same set of messages. 7.17 Moving messages to the "Deleted Items" folder ===================================================================== Clicking "Move Now" or setting PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam to move messages after several days will only move messages that have been detected as spam. This feature will not move messages placed into the "Spam Mail" folder by other means. 7.18 Disabling and enabling the toolbar ===================================================================== Disabling and then enabling the Anti-Spam toolbar repeatedly, within a short period without restarting Outlook Express can cause problems. To address this, PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam allows users to disable and then enable the toolbar for only up to 24 times before they need to close and restart Outlook Express. 7.19 Closing Anti-Spam during updates ===================================================================== PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam will not terminate immediately when closed during an update. This prevents possible errors to the components being updated. 7.20 Switching email accounts in Microsoft Outlook ===================================================================== After switching to a different default email account, close and restart Microsoft Outlook. This will ensure that PC-cillin Internet Security Anti-Spam configuration settings are saved with the configuration file for the new default account. 8.
